Is There Such Thing as Too Much Meditation?

While meditation is exploding in popularity these days, some more traditional Western approaches to religion and mental healthcare are pushing back against the age old spiritual practice of meditation.

Because meditation is showing great promise in curing various mental health disorders and physical ailments, as well as helping millions of people achieve greater levels of peace and happiness, some groups are spreading stories about people having panic attacks as a result of meditation. Rumors of people completely withdrawing from their lives have been shared. Even stories of people becoming depressed or suicidal from meditation have been reported.

At www.eastwesticism.org/too-much-meditation I explore every one of these stories, go in depth as to why they keep popping up, and most importantly how to avoid the “down” side of meditation.

Todd Perelmuter, founder of EastWesticism, a non-profit organization dedicated to the research and instruction on physical, mental and spiritual well-being, is an internationally recognized expert in spirituality and meditation. Perelmuter’s unique experience began in 2012 when he began studying and living with gurus, shamans, monks and lamas, in ashrams and monasteries in 35 countries across 5 continents. After learning everything there was to know about spirituality and meditation, like Buddha and Jesus before him, he set off alone into the wilderness where he sat in meditation for 50 days. You can follow along with him on his journey as he shares his stories on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube.
